International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School
JISPP is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School, currently working towards becoming an authorized IB World School.
At JISPP, the IB strengthens what we already value in early childhood education: children learn best when they are curious, independent, and actively engaged in their learning.
What is the IB?
The IB is a globally recognized framework that supports the development of the whole child.
It helps children become thoughtful, confident, and responsible learners.
Children are encouraged to think independently, communicate effectively, work with others, and different perspectives.
They also learn to appreciate different cultures and understand that they are part of a wider world.
These qualities support children not only in school, but throughout life.
Primary Years Programme (PYP)
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is part of the IB designed for children aged 3 to 12. It focuses on learning through inquiry, where children build understanding through meaningful and connected experiences.
Children learn by:
- Asking questions
- Exploring ideas
- Engaging in play, inquiry, and real-life experiences
- Making connections to the world around them
At JISPP, this approach supports children in developing curiosity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of their learning, while building important skills for thinking, communication, and independence.
Units of Inquiry
In the PYP, children explore important ideas through Units of Inquiry guided by broad, relevant themes:

Transdisciplinary Learning
Learning in the IB is designed to be transdisciplinary, meaning children make connections across different areas rather than experiencing subjects in isolation.
Children engage with areas such as:

- Science and Technology
- Social Studies
- Arts
- Personal, Social and Physical Education
In the early years, these areas are integrated through play and inquiry.

JISPP is a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme (PYP).
This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that JISPP believes is important for our students.
